Course Overview and Target Audience

Robotic surgery is a rapidly expanding and emerging field within laparoscopic surgery. Its application to bariatric surgery will be examined with an emphasis on current techniques and outcomes in regards to specific procedures. The two hour lab with a DaVinci robot in stages for participants and faculty will include use on tissue learning basic principles, use of instruments and general skills needed including stapling, dissection and sewing.The target audience is bariatric surgeons interested in robotic surgery. This course is targeted at those who have an interest in exploring Robotics as part of their practice or have started to use Robotics and want to hear from more experts.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Update bariatric surgeons with an interest in robotic surgery to the current technology and techniques.
• Interpret the potential advantages to robotic bariatric surgery.
• Practice experience in a hands on laboratory setting with Robotic technology, instruments and techniques.
